The Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) in collaboration with the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Office (DPFOI) at the University of Glasgow, is hosting a short seminar on research with administrative data about individuals.

This is an introductory seminar for researchers who are thinking of using administrative data in the future. The seminar will focus on administrative data about individuals that could be considered personal data.

The seminar will cover:

  • the purpose of research services, such as the UBDC, which aim to support researcher access to administrative data;
  • the legal framework that regulates research with personal data, particularly the Data Protection Act of 1998; and
  • the research process, from constructing a proposal through applying for data to conducting analyses.

There will also be opportunities for questions and discussion.
