UBDC Co-I Professor Bernard Fingleton presents work on simulations
Professor Bernard Fingleton, UBDC Co-Investigator at the University of Cambridge, has been presenting his recent work on simulations at international workshops in France, Ireland and Italy.
Recent presentations include:
- Fingleton B (2015) ‘Spatial panels, UK house prices and the global crisis’ Invited keynote speaker, Fourteenth International Workshop of Spatial Econometrics and Statistics in Paris, May 27-28, 2015.
- Fingleton, B, Le Gallo J, Pirotte A (2015) ‘Panel Data Models with Spatially Nested Random Effects’ 14th International workshop on Spatial Econometrics and Statistics, Paris, May 27-28, 2015
- Fingleton B (2015) ‘Spatial panels, UK house prices and the global crisis’ Conference of Regional Science Association, British & Irish section, Dublin August 17-18 2015.
- Fingleton B (2015) ‘Spatial econometrics: a critical review, with reference to dynamic spatial panel models and the EU regional economies’ Invited keynote speaker Italian Regional Science Association, University of Calabria, Cosenza, September 15th 2015.
- Fingleton, B, Le Gallo J, Pirotte A (2015) ‘Panel Data Models with Spatially Nested Random Effects’ 8th edition of the Seminar of Spatial Econometrics in honour of Professor Jean Paelinck, October 23-24, Dijon (France) presented by J Le Gallo
One of the important issues related to his research is how we might use the estimates from models to give outcomes in the future based on possible scenarios. Recent work has focussed on using estimates from dynamic spatial panel models to show what might happen to employment levels in future years under assumptions of either continuing austerity across regions of the EU or a return to the growth path pre- global crisis of 2008. It is envisaged that this type of simulation, involving different variables, could also be carried out in a big data context and at a more micro scale, that is between cities or within city regions.
