Meet the team
Yahya Gamal
Yahya Gamal joined the UBDC as a Research Associate in Computational Social Simulations in July 2023.
Prior to this, Yahya Gamal acquired a PhD in Architecture from the University of Manchester. His PhD focused on economic decision-making theories and individual-based simulations, particularly Agent Based Models (ABMs). It expanded utility theories to evaluate economic procedures in ABMs – with an ABM application to simulate residential markets and explore the effect of market procedures on residential location choice and segregation patterns. Yahya Gamal was also a Research Assistant in University College London and King’s College London on the Tomorrow’s Cities Project. He contributed to developing ABMs to explore the effect of optimising road network developments for flood resilience on land value and gentrification.
Research Interests
Yahya Gamal is interested in using individual-based simulation approaches to understand complex urban systems (cities). He is also interested in the underlying decision-making theories used in such simulations. He has a wide range of interests spanning the following topics/methods:
- Agent Based Modelling
- Decision-making Theories
- Urban Economics
- Residential Location Choice
- Housing
